Popular Paintings from West Africa
Nature-Themed Expressionist Painting in Green from Ghana, "Cooperation"$54.99
Separated by water, two trees connect their branches, as if holding hands. Ghanaian artist Stephen Dede-Bamfo paints this scene, depicting the two trees against a background of green in an expressionist style. Says the artist, "We need each other to survive in this life. We can achieve great things in life when we work together."
Abstract Painting from Africa, "Come In"
Memories from his days in the National Service spent in northern Ghana serve as inspiration to David Mawunya Charway. "The people of this area are very hospitable!," confides the Ghanaian artist. "I especially recall the architectural style of the region and its dry withered trees during Harmattan season." Every year, from November to March, the "African trade winds" of Harmattan blow dry and dusty from the Sahara to the Gulf Guinea. At their strongest, they can blow all the way to North America.
Original Signed Abstract Acrylic Painting on Canvas, "Rush Dance"$464.99
With this textured whirlwind of colors, Robert Osei Anim seeks to portray the intense movement and emotions embodied by dance. Just as dances are left up to performer's and audience's interpretation, Anim leaves the interpretation of this energetic abstract painting to the viewer.
Expressionist Painting of Market Sellers from Ghana, "To the Market I"$99.99
One by one, a group of women lines up on their way to the market to sell their goods, baskets expertly balanced atop their heads. Ghanaian artist Benjamin Sebi Amenortey paints this scene in an expressionist style that features a creative use of intense shading and color.
