Popular Landscape Paintings from West Africa
Abstract Painting from Africa, "Come In"
Memories from his days in the National Service spent in northern Ghana serve as inspiration to David Mawunya Charway. "The people of this area are very hospitable!," confides the Ghanaian artist. "I especially recall the architectural style of the region and its dry withered trees during Harmattan season." Every year, from November to March, the "African trade winds" of Harmattan blow dry and dusty from the Sahara to the Gulf Guinea. At their strongest, they can blow all the way to North America.
Signed Painting of an Elephant from Ghana, "Elephant in Sunset"
Silhouetted against the white light of the setting sun, an elephant raises its trunk towards the sky in reverence. Ghanaian artist K. Baka paints this scene of African wildlife, framing the elephant against a sky of vibrant orange and yellow. This painting arrives in a blue mat board passe-partout.
Ghana Signed Original Watercolor Painting, "From the Farm"
Godwin Atta Geoman conveys the beauty of the Ghanaian countryside, depicting an inviting village beneath the wide blue sky. People come and go, working or relaxing, many carrying baskets on their heads. In the foreground, a shade tree extends a verdant canopy like a welcome. "This is the kind of lovely scenery most people experience in our farming villages in Ghana," the artist says.
