'Virgin of Guadalupe'$539.99
Juan Diego falls to his knees in reverent awe as the Virgin of Guadalupe appears. Speaking softly, she calls to him lovingly, like a mother. Symbolically, artifacts of the Aztec Empire lay scattered at her feet. Fernando Sayan Polo recreates the moment in 1531 when Guadalupe first appeared in Mexico and, as proof of her visit, caused roses to bloom at the site. Because church leaders did not believe Juan Diego had seen her, she instructed him to gather a bouquet in his cloak, or and take them back with him. When the bishops opened the cloak, the Virgin's portrait appeared. Sayan replicates the original painting credited to Marcos Aquino and painted in 1556.
Titled "Virgen de Guadalupe" in Spanish. Resellable replica.
Religious Oil Painting in Colonial Style, "Divine Holy Virgin"$419.99
By Fernando Sayan Polo, this splendid portrait of the Holy Virgin reveals the influence of Peru's pre-Hispanic art that melds with European styling. His color palette is one favored by the ancient Inca, and the patterns on Mary's gown recall colonial art created by ancient artists. Yet Our Lady's lovely face and halo suggest Spanish paintings. This exquisite portrait is adorned with bronze leaf.
The artist works in the style of Renaissance masterpieces found in the convents and churches of Cuzco. The painting is a copy of a classic portrait, a theme he often repeats. Sayan gives it his own artistic interpretation.
Titled "Virgen Divina" in Spanish.
'Our Lady of Sorrows'$179.99
Seven swords pierce Mary's heart as she seeks strength through prayer. Venerated for her perfect obedience to God, the Virgin now faces her son's sacrifice, as Jesus offers his own life in atonement for mankind's sins. Americo Tinoco portrays her in an elegant oil painting, embellishing her gown and needle-like halo with applications of gilt.
Titled "Virgen Dolorosa" in Spanish.
Peruvian Colonial Replica Painting, "Virgin of Mount Carmel"$537.99
She wears a golden crown atop flowing brown hair, its elegant arches bejeweled with beautiful stones. The Virgin gazes tenderly at little Jesus, revealing the great love only a mother can feel for her child. Fernando Sayan Polo portrays the Madonna named for Mount Carmel in the Holy Land, where a chapel was built in her honor before her assumption into heaven. In 1251 she appeared in England, offering favors and protection to those who wear her scapular. Also known as Immaculate Virgin and Star of the Sea, she inspired the Carmelite order.
Titled "Virgen del Carmen" in Spanish.
