Talented artist Teofilo Choquecahua uses a pedal loom to create this beautiful tapestry from dyed alpaca wool. It represents the meaning of the Andean rhythm by depicting a scene where different ancestral instruments are used to transmit the pride and admiration for Peru. It is titled "Ritmo Andino" in Spanish.

Symbolizing the stairway to the heavens, the chakana cross is a geometric symbol that evokes the Andean cosmovision. Peruvian artist David Laura Zanabria creates this stunningly mystical tapestry, which depicts a condor bird with the body of a chakana that soars beneath the rays of the sun. Zanabria works on a traditional loom to hand-weave this tapestry from an alpaca blend. This piece is named Apu Kuntur in Quechua. Apu means "God" or mountain, and also refers to the Apu mountain spirits. Kuntur is the Quechua word for "condor."

This fantastic tapestry from the Andean highlands features entrancing abstract designs in a variety of colors. Inka uses crescent moon shapes in this design, diligently handwoven on an artisanal loom from alpaca wool and cotton blend fibers. For the artist, the tapestry represents the "union between the traditional and the contemporary, maintaining the iconic language of the Peruvian culture."

Working on a traditional loom with alpaca blend yarns on a cotton warp, artisan David Laura Zanabria from Peru creates this magnificent tapestry. It depicts a chakana or Inca cross at the center, surrounded by the Inca Trinity: a condor, a puma and a snake. For the Inca, these creatures represented their cosmovision: the world of the gods, the world of the living, and the world of the dead.

Tapestries and textiles in the Andes are as important today as they were 3,000 years ago, created for diverse purposes between daily life and godly ceremonies. Inspired by the culture he inherited from his ancestors, artisan Javier Landa continues the weaving traditions practiced for millennia in what is today Peru, blending imagery between the indigenous world of the Inca with the colonial legacy of the Spanish, and the religion they brought to the region centuries prior.

Learning traditional weaving from his father as a child, Javier Landa started with a foundation in Ayacucho influence, which compelled him to dedicate his adult life and career to mastering the art of weaving, learning increasingly complex methods as he worked in diverse workshops across Peru until he developed his own artistic license and style, as shown in the Inca Cross. This tapestry is entirely hand woven, with each thread being developed and combined on the two pedal loom, delivering stunning textures and banding gradients.

Designed and crafted by Deborcio Choquecahua of Peru, this beautiful alpaca blend tapestry is the artisan's interpretation of the Nazca monkey. The early inhabitants of the Nazca region of southern Peru would use the shape of the monkey's spiral tail to represent the constellation we call Ursa Major. The Nazca monkey's hands are specifically placed to mark the relationship of additional stars to the Ursa Major constellation during the rainy season. The artisan uses colors that transition in an ombre effect from gold to brown for the hummingbird, and uses a similar transition of color in the background from deep brown to near white, giving the illusion that the hummingbird is aglow.
