Give your holidays a taste of the tropics with this colorful mini ornament set by Jose Arriola. He shapes a collection of 30 tiny pieces featuring bananas, avocados, pineapples, papayas, mangoes, and other tropical delights from terracotta. Then he hand-paints each one in gorgeous bright colors. This set comes in a 100% cotton bag for easy transport and storage. Try them out as a fun centerpiece on a miniature holiday tree.

The Guatemalan artisan learned the art of ceramics from his mother. His work is inspired by old Mayan traditions and the bright colors of his homeland.

“Ornaments”

I bought these last Christmas to put on my mini tree. Unique, and its hard to choose which piece is my favorite. Its a toss-up between the mango and aguacate! Thank you José.

“Adorab le angels! One to keep and one for a gift”

These are adorable. The skin color on the set I received was darker than I expected, so the gift went to a different friend than originally intended. Joses work never disappoints. I have purchased many ornaments to give as gifts.

Preserving Traditions

Jose creates the most beautiful ceramic ornaments and figurines. His family has lived in Antigua for more than 100 years and he takes great pride in practicing the same ceramic techniques his ancestors used. He wishes to help this tradition continue and he teaches anyone in his community who has an interest in learning.

Microcredit Financing

Jose Arriola has received 7 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $450 and the most recent for $2550. Proceeds were used to purchase paints and materials for his ceramics to continue production.
