Alfredo Falcon of Peru designs this striped acrylic poncho with bold colors and a mixture of geometric motifs. A touch of baby alpaca gives adds to the poncho's warmth and feel. Lightweight, the poncho makes a wonderful layering piece.
Alfredo Falcon learned the craft of weaving from his parents, who learned from their parents before them. He says, “We have been a family devoted to the world of textiles for generations. I use modern colors but I remain true to Incan and colonial motifs.”
Alfredo’s sales have increased more than 3x since starting with Novica. He started with a few assistants and now has grown to employ 9 full time employees and several other women who help fulfill his orders. Many of the women who work for him are able to provide essentials for their homes like mattresses, refrigerators, and other appliances.
Over twenty years ago, Alfredo was infected with Tuberculosis at just 22 years of age. For 9 months he was bedridden and unable to work. Tuberculosis is a deadly disease with over 5,000 people per day passing away from the disease. Alfredo survived and was able to become healthy again.
Alfredo currently employs 9 people full time; a single mother, a man trying to fund his education, and 7 women who are bringing income to their households.
Alfredo currently supports English studies for his 4 nephews with the hope that it will help them achieve a better future.
Alfredo was recognized by the city hall for his excellent work.
