Engraved Suar Wood Wall Cross from Bali, "Grape Leaves"
Balinese artisan Nyoman Indrawati Subrata of the Subrata Family creates this ornate wood cross, perfect for wall display. Crafted from suar wood, the cross is engraved with a twisting grape vine, a symbol for God's steadfast love toward his people, and also a symbol of the wine used in the sacrament of communion. The artisan carries on the extraordinary art work of her late father, Nyoman Subrata.

"Magnificent!"
Barong is now busy protecting the house, frightening evil spirits but grinning heartily at the rest of us. He has added a colorful and life-enhancing presence that is a delight to encounter daily. After his arrival I particularly enjoyed watching Barong dance rituals on YouTube and highly recommend them to anyone contemplating ordering the mask since you ll understand his significance and character better. Incidentally, I had no trouble hanging him on the wall with a tiny bit of ingenuity.

"Wedding gift"
Absolutely beautiful. I gave this pair as a wedding gift and the recipients loved them. A unique piece of art has more meaning than a store bought, massed produced article and supports the craftsmen and their family. Please dont hesitate if considering a carving by the Subrata Family. You will not be disappointed.

"Legong Kraton Dancer"
VERY BEAUTIFUL carving. I love it. Carving takes me back to Legong performances in Ubud.

"Beautiful but"
This mask has so much detail and is beautiful! However, it s hard to hang since there is not hook or hold in the back only a very thick wood loop.

Preserving Traditions
Subrata has been a master carver for many years. He is one of the original Novica artisans and now provides work to other artisans at his carving workshop. He has trained his daughter, Indrawati, in all aspects of his business and she will keep the workshop going when Subrata no longer is able to.
