Floral tendrils delicately embrace the face of a Balinese woman. Eliciting her portrait from hibiscus wood, Eka designs this exquisite mask. Hibiscus wood varies widely in its tones and patterns, thus each mask is an absolutely unique work of art.

This elegant mask by Nyoman Indrawati Subrata of the Subrata Family depicts Garuda, a bird-like creature of Balinese Hindu legend. She carves the image from suar wood with both eagle and human features. Garuda acts as Vishnu's mount, represents birth and heaven, and is the enemy of all snakes.

The artisan carries on the extraordinary art work of her late father, Nyoman Subrata.
