Some are buds while some are full-blown and beginning to fade. Buddha taught that all living creatures exist within the cycle of life – birth, age, death – but a wholesome existence guided by proper understanding, contemplation and concentration releases one.

"Thai people believe in a circle of wealthy life," Nuttiya says. She shares the concept as a gleaming wheel with ornate vines and tendrils against the blue-black heavens. Applications of gold, silver and copper foil create textures in low relief.

Shaped like a heart, a bo leaf takes shape in textured golden and silver leaf. It was in the shade of the bo, or bhodi tree that Buddha achieved enlightenment. Known in Thailand as pipal leaves, they inspire this elegant painting by Nuttiya.

Five frangipanis blossom with tropical beauty, luring Ryan Chappell into immortalizing them through his photographic art. Printed in black and white, the photograph successfully conveys the petals' fresh textures after the rain.
