Artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association create an original mask that blends elements of both Maya and Aztec art and culture. The face depicts the Sun Jaguar of the underworld seen in an incense burner from the Classic Maya site of Palenque. The mouth makes reference to Chac, the Maya rain god. Covered with skulls, the headdress is an interpretation of the Aztec tzompantli, a rack where the heads of sacrificial victims were displayed as an offering to the gods.

Tlaloc is the god of rain in a number of Mesoamerican cultures, beginning with the vast city of Teotihuacan where he was also venerated as a fertility god. Deity of earthly waters and fertility, Tlaloc was believed to be responsible for drought as well as for floods in ancient Teotihuacan. This belief spread throughout Mexico, reaching the Maya who referred to him as Chaac, and from there to Central American cultures. Morneo depicts his own interpretation of the pre-Hispanic rain god in bright colors. The Mexican artisan works in papier-maché, crafting and painting the signature mask by hand.

Skilled members of the Angel Ceron Artisan Association create an image in handcrafted ceramic to honor Mexico's pre-Hispanic civilizations. The headdress is similar to that of a Classic Maya sculpture from Copan that can be seen in the Peabody Museum. Their concept may be inspired by a Maya maize God image from the same archaeological site, now on display in the British Museum. However the artisans give the deity the look of an aged man.
