Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge and arts and her four hands represent the four pillars of human learning: mind, intellect, alertness and ego. Here, Saraswati is hand carved out of beautiful crocodile wood, one hand holding sacred scriptures, one hand holding the revered lotus (the symbol of true knowledge) and her other two hands playing the music of life and love on a Hindu instrument called the veena. Finally, Saraswati is depicted riding on a white swan to symbolize purity.

I gave my little sister free range to choose her Christmas present on NOVICA and she chose this wonderful carving. She tells me that the workmanship is really good and that she wants to collect other pieces from Wayan Rendah - there's a hint for next Christmas if ever I heard one!
