"Ekuaba Fertility Doll"

Masks appear in a mystical green composition fraught with possibilities. In the upper left, an ekuaba, or akuaba fertility doll reaches out her arms to invite an embrace. People gather in clusters that suggest the family, and spirals represent adinkrahene, the most important of West African adinkra symbols. By artist Prince Dewodo, this painting takes the Fante spelling of akuaba, meaning "a girl born on Wednesday."
