For the indigenous people of pre-Columbian America, especially the Mayas, the ya'ax chich or "jade" meant life, fertility, and power. It was the most precious object, even above gold. These dangle earrings, by Guatemalan artisan Zandra Lorena Sajbin, feature dark green natural jade square beads on silver ear wires above handcrafted teardrops of high-polish sterling silver.
Says Sajbin, "Jade is a very beautiful stone that I like to work with, as we can create endless shapes that allow us to make wonderful pieces."

Toj is my Mayan birth date, so I was very happy to find this. I live in Mexico so I was nervous about the shipping. Indeed, it took a long time, but it did finally arrive. It also ended up costing me twice as much as the listed price by the time shippng and the VAT were added. I was okay with that because I expected to really love this piece. And I do. With one caveat. The jade is VERY dark and the carving does not have the relief that is shown in the photo, so its very difficult to discern the glyph. But I still love it. I know its there so thats all the matters.

I received these earrings much earlier than expected to my delight! In opening the packaging the earrings came in, I was thrilled to see they are even more beautiful in person, than the picture. The earrings are a lovely soft medium green as shown, neither too big, nor too small, just the right size to be an excellent accent for dressing up any outfit for special occasions, or casual wear. I highly recommend these earrings as an addition to any wardrobe.
