Photographer Ryan Chappell captures a unique treasure hidden within a secluded temple in the forests of South Korea. His adventures in South Korea lead him to find thousands of meticulously arranged golden sculptures of Buddha, which he presents to us in this impressive color photograph.

Perfectly sculpted of stone centuries ago, Buddha's strength and serenity come through this color photograph by Brendan O'Connell. The sculpture is one of many Buddha heads and other relics rescued from various abandoned temples in nearby provinces. This unique collection was started by one of the temple's supporters and now when people run across such relics or have a broken Buddha they want to replace, they bring them to Wat Umong. Printed on matte paper, the inspiring photograph arrives in a pinewood frame with a protective glass pane.

Wat Umong temple and its tunnels were built in the late 14th century. Distributed like a maze, the tunnels were created to keep a much-loved monk from wandering off, for he was a little crazy and they feared he wouldn't find his way back.

Buddha's presence inspires a welcome sense of serenity in this photograph by Brendan O'Connell. Printed in black and white, the angle of the photo that captures the swirling clouds in the sky adds to the composition's sense of mysticism. This stuccoed stone sculpture portrays Buddha in the Bhumisparsha mudra posture, also known as "calling Earth to witness." Situated in Wat Sa Si, this depiction of Buddha is characteristic of Thailand's Sukhothai period (at the end of 14th century). Printed on matte paper, the photograph arrives in a pinewood frame with a protective glass pane.

Ryan Chappell focuses his lens on Buddha's hand, capturing its graceful gesture though cast of bronze. It is part of the 15m tall bronze Buddha of Taejosan Mountain, South Korea. It weighs 60 tons, and the length of each fingernail is 30 cms. Chappell works with Fujicolor crystal archive paper, presenting the signed photograph on a mat board.

Ryan Chappell is inspired by the serenity that emanates from this sculpture of Buddha, at the Jogyesa temple in South Korea. "I wanted to convey Buddha's sense of peace," confides Chappell. Originally it was taken as a color photograph, then Chappell transformed it into black and white in the light room. He works with Fujicolor crystal archive paper, presenting the signed photograph on a mat board.

"The centuries have taken their toll and the weather has done its worst, yet nothing can touch the abiding peace and dignity exuding from this ancient and weathered face," says Brendan O'Connell as he photographs the stone sculpture of Buddha. Shooting the photo in black and white, O'Connell masterfully captures the passing of shadows over the tranquil face. The sculpture is one of many strewn throughout Wat Umong, which was built in the late 14th century near Chiang Mai. The temple features an enigmatic collection of Buddha heads and other relics that people have found in abandoned temples, or in local markets.

"This Buddha sits in Wat Sa-Si emanating great strength and resolve. It has weathered monsoons for centuries, and will weather them for centuries more. It is as immovable as the surrounding mountains," says Brendan O'Connell in admiration. His photograph captures clouds surrounding Buddha as if he were in the heavens.

Sitting on a lotus throne as befits his divine status, Buddha gestures a mudra while in serene meditation. His image in screen printed on khaki-hued handmade paper for the cover of this journal by Asha Prabha. Trimmed with khaki cotton, the journal features 48 blank handmade paper pages.

"This is the younger Buddha from the princedom, where he is deep in contemplation about the various unresolved issues plaguing his mind", says Sonu Chopra of her painting. The evocative and approachable portrait is rendered in muted shades of saffron, yellow and green.
