Working with traditional Indonesian batik techniques, Yuni Kristina creates original patterns for today's modern trends. They are painted by hand on a silk shawl of exquisite elegance.

A batik design honors the serene autumn season in the glorious city of Blitar. Inspired by the region's intense colors and elegant vibe, Javanese artisans create this cotton tote bag that can also be folded for convenient use, all thanks to its coconut front button. Traditional Javanese motifs flow in quiet harmony across a silk batik scarf. Yuni Kristina combines kotak (squares) with the elaborate parang kotak bajel (dagger or blade), once reserved for the royal courts of Surakarta and Jogyakarta.

Balinese artisan Dayu Menuhari presents a gorgeous batik scarf diligently crafted by hand. "We don't do any printing or even stamping," she says, "but it's all hand painted and while that makes our production take longer, our products are purely hand-made." Butterflies flit across the rayon scarf's awe-inspiring design in porcelain and geranium hues, which includes a traditional parang pattern at both ends of the accessory. A parang is type of knife, and the use of a parang motif was once reserved solely for Javanese royalty. Fringe on both ends completes the vibrantly-colored wrap scarf.

Bali's legendary hand-painted batik brings island beauty a set of three rayon face masks by Desak Nyoman Parwati. Contoured for comfort, the double-layer masks depict cheerful fish on navy blue, turquoise and cherry red. They are washable and reusable, and feature elastic to loop over the ears.
