Traditional Javanese motifs flow in quiet harmony across a silk batik scarf. Yuni Kristina combines kotak (squares) with the elaborate parang kotak bajel (dagger or blade), once reserved for the royal courts of Surakarta and Jogyakarta.

"Gorgeous Scarves"
I just received my two scarves - Harmony and Jade Jasmine. They are beautiful! And so unique. Im really happy with both of them and I bet Ill be getting a lot of compliments on them. "Very elegant scarf"
The silk is of good quality. The brown colour has actually a very very slight khaki touch to it, but still very beautiful. The beige instead is exactly as depicted. This scarf is very elegant. Also I would like to add that I liked many many other scarves from this same artist, Mrs. Yuni Kristina, it was really difficult to make a choice ! Congratulations for these wonderful scarves !

Preserving Traditions
Yuni uses traditional batik processes such as canting and stamping to create her unique designs. These techniques have been handed down for generations and are among the characteristics that distinguish the art of batik. The importance of this traditional Indonesian art was acknowledge with the 2009 inclusion of Indonesian Batik on the Unesco Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Yuni Kristina has received 11 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $2500 and the most recent for $5000. Proceeds were used to purchase silk, canting tools, and batik stamps.
Job Creator
Since joining Novica, Yuni has seen steady growth in her workshop. She now provides work to other batik artisans to help produce her range of scarves and shawls.
