The warm natural color of suar wood lends itself perfectly to this sculpture of a watchful ginger cat. Nengah Sudarsana of Bali carves the kitty by hand, capturing every detail right down to the whiskers.

Vasquez works with a single piece of pochote wood, hand-carving the relief with great detail. Says the artist, "For the majority of my life, I have been surrounded by nature. Due to my Costa Rican identity, the love that I feel for the Costa Rican landscape has inspired me to utilize my talent to translate them into beautiful works of art."

In his painting, free-flying doves symbolize world peace, and two hands shake in accord, forming a united, yet diverse forest in this dreamy acrylic painting fashioned in the surrealist style.

The artist says his painting interprets world peace as the only way for the relationship between God, humans and the environment to prosper — to be able to forgive each other and set aside common differences.
