Soapstone and agate beaded necklace, "Sankofa"
Sleek globes of vivid agate punctuate a necklace of gray and brown. Combining bauxite and soapstone, Rachel Armah crafts a stunning necklace. She names her design Sankofa, an Akan word that means "Go Back to My Roots." In Eastern Ghana, bauxite beads are believed to be healing.

"Stones are beautiful!"

I love these stones, but I have to confess that they are heavier than I can comfortably wear. Im so sad about that. Ive been thinking of putting them on a gold chain as a necklace because the stones are so very pretty.

"Beautiful....and Memorable!"

This was a gift for my wife, who some years earlier had spent a year in Ghana. She always spoke fondly of her experiences there, meeting people and getting to know the culture. My hope was that this gift would help revive those memories at Christmastime. Success! She loves it, and so do I! Thank you, Rachel!
