"I was born in Kota, in Rajasthan. But since my father's job took us to many places, I was brought up in different parts of the country. It was fun! India is such a diverse country so I had the opportunity to learn about a variety of cultures and traditions. This also helped me appreciate and develop a keen interest in different arts and crafts of India.

"We stayed in Bombay and Nainital before we finally settled in Delhi, where I completed my degree in Science at Delhi University. After my graduation, I did my masters in textiles from Pearl Academy Delhi in 1998. I have always been fascinated by the richness of Indian textiles and so taking this course really helped me learn more about the beauty of our rich fabric traditions.

"I then had the opportunity to work with the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi, as a textile project coordinator. Here I had the freedom to explore my design sensibility to the maximum with the different craft-based clusters working with us. During that time, I traveled a lot to Rajasthan and worked mainly in woven merino wool and khadi cloth. I was with this Institute for almost three years. It was a very enriching experiencing for me, as I not only got the opportunity to train weavers but also was able to learn so much at the grass-roots level.

"I used to train weavers and guide them in making designs in keeping with the latest trends without losing the originality of product. I keep in mind the artisans' capability to mold my concepts into beautiful and unique works of textile art. Apart from these projects, I did an independent project with Kullu shawls and weaving, and have done consultancy design projects for international fairs.

"I have been working with this industry since 2000, and I now have a small design studio where approximately 10 artisans collaborate with me. We have a small printing setup and we also work with hand-loom weavers from Pilukwa, Jaipur and Kota. Converting tribal traditions into contemporary pieces without losing the original concept is what I love most about my work.

"In the future, it is my dream to have my designs reach out to shoppers globally."
