Working with natural fiber from the cabuya succulent, Costa Rican artisan Blanca Padilla creates a stunning nativity scene. Joseph and Mary are fully-realized in sculpture form, wearing cotton clothes. Joined by two farm animals, the proud parents overlook baby Jesus in his cradle. Jesus is removable from the cradle.
The art and skill of creating handicrafts from cabuya has been handed down through Blanca Padilla's family for generations. The artisan sources her material herself, growing and harvesting the cabuya, extracting the fiber, and preparing it for use in the handicrafts. Blanca Padilla hopes to help revitalize the cabuya craft industry with the success of her designs.

"Charming from a distance; amazing on closer inspection"
The minute this fiber crèche arrived, I had to display it although it wasn t even December yet. Friends who viewed the scene from a distance thought it was porcelain; but, on closer inspection, they could recognize the handcrafted fiber and marvel at the meticulous artistry. We appreciate it so much.

"HEAVENLY AND DIVINE"
The Angels with Bouquets are made with such care and intricacy! Its literally mindboggling how detailed each Angel is. The work that has gone into each one is apparent. The creativity and quality is out of this world! They are absolutely HEAVENLY AND DIVINE! An afternote...I sent the Angels to my Goddaughters for Christmas and ALL of them were so impressed and taken by the workmanship and artistry!
