This petite wooden jewelry box from Handaru Baskoro is lavishly covered in traditional Javanese batik. The artisan chooses the ancient kawung and parang batik motifs, both of which have an ancient history in Indonesia. The kawung design is one of the oldest designs, once reserved exclusively for the royal family. It represents a cross-section of the aren or palm fruit, and some say the cross formed between the four sections refers to the universal energy source. The parang motif represents the traditional Java sword known as keris. The jewelry box features a single drawer with a sturdy iron pull.
