What aloha is to Hawaiians, sawasdee is to the Thai people. In Thailand, the word sawasdee is used for greetings and goodbyes and it is coupled with an endearing gesture of cupping your hands together in prayer and bowing your head. In this beautiful pair of teakwood wall relief panels, a Thai guardian character is carved in the sawasdee pose on top of two trumpeting elephants, ensuring charming hellos and goodbyes to anyone that comes into your home. This pair of panels is hand carved in rich detail from reclaimed teakwood that came from old community buildings and houses in Thailand, an ingenious use of upcycling that puts a bit of Thai history into each carving.
