In Indonesian wayang shadow puppetry, one of the humorous characters who makes an appearance in the retelling of the Ramayana epic goes by the name Sangut. Depicted with skinny limbs but a big stomach, he works for the demon king Rawana. He and his partner Delem are used for comedic relief as they crack jokes and inspire laughs with their antics. Putu Oka Mahendra's serving plate shows Sangut in a traditional shadow puppet pose, smiling with good humor. The plate is handcrafted ceramic in an almond shape for a distinctive flair.
