Artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association were inspired to handcraft this ceramic incense holder by the culture of the ancient Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacán, which existed from around AD 200 to AD 600 in southern Mexico. According to the artisan, fire was an integral part of ceremonial rituals in Teotihuacán. Thus, censers, which required both incense and fire, were important devices and were located in the various temples throughout the city. Depicting a man wearing an eagle feather headdress, this censer can hold cone incense and is finished in an antiqued style.
