Details

The movements of the forest inspire the composition of this hand-carved jewelry box, as numerous animals explore the inviting grain of select walnut wood. M. Ayub designs the piece with a removable shelf featuring a secret hiding place for precious rings or other small trinkets. Lined in velvet and equipped with brass hinges, this work lends meticulous beauty to any décor. The box features a magic lock and can be opened by sliding the lower front panel of the box to the right side.

Following in his father's footsteps, Ayub strives to create decorative items of superior quality. He works with Kashmiri walnut wood, which takes between two to three years to dry out completely, and uses no artificial colorings, rubbing the piece with an agate stone prior to applying a wax polish.

Your Purchase Makes a Difference!

Carving walnut wood is a passion for M. Ayub. He loves every aspect of this traditional art that was taught to him as a boy. A single piece can take many years for him to create; the wood must be gathered and carefully preserved before the carving can even begin. Once carved, it must be hand-rubbed with an agate stone to produce a beautiful refined finish. M. Ayub finds that many younger people do not have the patience for this craft and he fears that it is a dying art. He is dedicated to encouraging and motivating others to continue this magnificent Indian traditional craft and he stands ready to teach those willing to learn.

M. Ayub proudly provides for the education of his son and daughter.

"Absolutely beautiful..."

This is an absolutely beautiful piece of craftsmanship. The piece is slightly darker than shown in the picture, but stunning nonetheless. It is a functional container for any small items, but shines on its own. It is a piece of art.

Just received my wonderfully packaged Kashmiri Valley locking jewelry box. Beautiful craftsmanship and finish--I would buy from A. Ayub again, without question.

Artist M. Ayub must be one of the most talented wood carving artists on the planet. His work is so intricate, detailed, and lifelike, that I consider his carvings (such as his jewelry boxes, which I use to store many treasures) the best investment that I can make in art! Thank you for your beautiful work, M. Ayub.
