Hand carved from rich sese wood and colored with deep scarlet red and black paint, West African artist Winfred Ansah Okoampah presents this sculpture of a bird named Sankofa, an Adinkra symbol meaning "go back and get it." The artist's interpretation of the word is to "bring the good things from the past into the present" and this retrospective piece of art is also a beautiful representation of West African wildlife.
