“All my handbag designs are inspired by the traditions of Mexico.”
For a woman, a handbag to complement her day-to-day look is of vital importance. This is precisely what led me to design and craft them. A purse can be the perfect accessory for a woman's elegance.
When my daughter was diagnosed with diabetes, it was a really tough time and I became depressed. But, curiously, that's when I began to feel inspiration. I thought about how to create an elegant handbag that revealed our Mexican traditions yet was friendly with our beautiful planet.
In earlier times in Mexico, it was common to see homemakers with a pretty shopping bag as she'd buy what was needed in the markets. This concept led me to using recycled vinyl lacing – my designs are a reflection of this lovely tradition.
I thought that these attractive shopping bags could be transformed to go with our clothing. A good friend of mine who is a designer taught me the details of leather work and how to accessorize each one of my handbag designs.
We began working together with two artisans who helped us weave the bags.
I remember that, at first, we gave some of our bags away as gifts so people would begin talking about how they liked our designs. Today, we're able to offer jobs to single mothers and women who want to work from home.
All my handbag designs are inspired by the traditions of Mexico, for example, Talavera ceramics with the bright colors of our country, fashionable colors. But my greatest inspiration comes from my family. They have given me the strength to continue growing and innovating with my passion.
Today, my designs are known in several countries. This is a wonderful way for artisans to show the traditions that have formed our country.
