Bronze Sundanese Folklore Monkey Figurine from Bali, "Lutung Kasarung"
Artisan Adi Noviantara of Bali brings an old Sundanese folktale to life with this charming bronze figurine. Set in the tropical climate of the Pasir Batang Kingdom in West Java, it tells the tale of a magical lutung, a black monkey, who helped an elegant princess when her sister tried to steal her place as crowned princess of the kingdom. The name Lutung Kasarung, is from an old Sundanese quatrain and means "The Lost Ape." The wonderful figurine has an antique finish which accentuates the traditional clothing worn by the lutung, and completes the whimsical nature of the design.
