Batik Silk Shawl with Multicolored Floral Motifs from Bali, "Ceplok Petals in Indigo"
A traditional design originating from the Javanese city of Yogyakarta, ceplok often features geometric motifs. Bali's Yuni Kristina decorates this fine silk shawl with the batik method, where a wax resist is used with dyes in indigo, burgundy, and black over a body of ecru, resulting in beautiful floral ceplok motifs. Long, elegant fringes finish the shawl at each end.

These techniques have been handed down for generations and are among the characteristics that distinguish the art of batik. The importance of this traditional Indonesian art was acknowledge with the 2009 inclusion of Indonesian Batik on the Unesco Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
