Poised on the back of a swan, the beautiful Saraswati bears the symbols of her office. Ketut Sandi portrays the Balinese goddess of the arts and learning in a panel of cempaka wood. She holds a lotus, symbol of purity; a lontar (palm leaf) book, representing knowledge; and prayer beads. In her fourth hand, she holds a stringed instrument called a rebab.
