Golden kaleidoscopes bring hypnotic elegance to a pair of cushion covers come from India's Seema. The cotton cushion covers are printed with gold foil and are framed by piping on the edges. Each cushion cover features a zipper opening on the solid off-white cotton back.

Woven by hand, these cushion covers are bold in dark brown, orange and tangerine. W. Rojas Yuri works on the Andean handloom, using a soft blend of alpaca wool. He names his design Niñatay, meaning "little girl" in the Quechua language.

A small flock of birds sits among the floral blooms of a huge tree in this lovely pair of cushion covers. Designed by artisan Amit Moza from India, white cotton is used as a base for the gorgeous aari embroidery. This particular type of embroidery, a specialty of Kashmiri artisans, involves a hooked needle that creates the unique chain-stitch seen on these elegant covers. Shades of blue thread are used for the friendly fowl, which makes them stand out beautifully against the light, earthy tones of green and brown chosen for the tree. The backs of the covers are plain white, and feature a slit opening for the cushions.

Precise geometric motifs alternate with birds in an exquisite design. From talented members of Women United for Artisan Development, the cushion cover is woven by hand on a backstrap loom. Cording defines the borders, and the back is solid grey. "We love birds," the artisans confide. "This design was woven by women who live in Quiché, a forested region in western Guatemala."

Should one of the threads snag, they suggest you pull it back into place from the back of the fabric with a fine crochet hook.
