This set of three lovely black monkey-shaped ceramic figurines slightly resembles the classic three wise monkeys motif. Guatemalan artisan Jose Arriola designs and hand-paints the figurines according to the traditional Mayan technique of working ceramics at high temperatures in special grills fueled by wood and charcoal.

This ceramic vessel is a replica of a famous Aztec archaeological sculpture in obsidian, which is on display in Mexico's National Museum of Anthropology. This version is burnished, high-fired ceramic with a rustic brown finish, created by the Angel Ceron Artisan Association in Mexico City.
