Magnificent monkey business!
Large, well made. Unique piece and a great addition to my collection. Artist is very talented. One down side, you have to rig your own way to hang. Would be better with a wire or hanger screwed into the inside of mask.
Simple but eye-catching
My sister and her husband collect ethnic masks, and this one is unlike any they have. I liked that its so narrow, which should make it easy to find a place for it. Also, their other masks are mostly bare wood, and the color on this gives it more of a presence, even though its smaller than their other pieces.

Nigerian Wood Mask, "Harvest Joy"$77.99
A serious expression belies the joy of an abundant harvest. Carved and painted by hand, this handsome mask comes from Abdul Aziz Mohamadu. "It is used by the Chamba people of Nigeria during the Chambalare festival, which celebrates the end of the hunger suffered in the olden days," he says. "Farmers wear the mask to remember the days of severe hunger. Although the festival is joyous and filled with merrymaking, the sight of this mask reminds people to keep their crops well and waste nothing." He names this piece a Hausa word meaning "Worried."
Balinese Mythic Monkey Mask, "Monkey King Subali"$119.99
Carved by hand from acacia wood, this exquisite mask by Made Mulyani depicts Subali. The Hindu epic Ramayana tells how Sugriwa and his brother Subali bathed in the enchanted lake of the forest, thus turning into monkeys and becoming kings of different kingdoms. They helped Rama rescue Sita from the evil king Rahwana.
Please note that wood color and grain can vary significantly from one piece to the next; this makes each mask a unique piece of art.
