Working with traditional Indonesian batik techniques, Yuni Kristina creates original patterns for today's modern trends. They are painted by hand on a silk shawl of exquisite elegance.

At once bold and modern, as well as classic, the original design of this shawl is by Rajnandinee and Srabonti in India. The alabaster-hued tussar silk wrap is decorated with block printing techniques executed by hand that reveal black leafy shields among bands of magenta and rusty orange.

Hand block printing is a millenary art form believed to have spread throughout Asia during the 4th century AD. The desired composition is carved on wooden block with a chisel, hammer, file, nails etc. Printing involves laying out the fabric on flat tables and making the impressions with the previously carved blocks dipped in the desired dyes.

Silk becomes rebellion in this handwoven treasure where threads of tradition and modern flair intertwine in a spectacular batik symphony. Created by Thai artisan Vinita, this tie-dyed scarf defies convention with its riot of color and playful fringed edges, ready to be draped, twisted or knotted into a statement piece that speaks volumes without uttering a word.

Drawn by hand on luxurious silk, white lights explode in a pattern of dazzling fireworks. Vinita creates this beautifully modern shawl with batik motifs on black, gold and olive green.

Crafted by hand, this modern design depicts horizontal waves that embrace the scarf. Peach, coral and rust are accentuated by white as Vinita adds a touch of silk for sheen.

Yuni Kristina draws on millennial Balinese traditions to create this exquisite shawl. Working in batik on silk, she combines modern motifs in red and orange. The elegant patterns are stamped by hand and fringe finishes the lovely wrap.

Each motif is created by hand, as evidenced by the occasional pencil mark or slight color variations.
