Featuring a textured surface made of aluminum, this African mask is hand-carved from local sese wood by Ghanaian artisan Awudu Saaed. Presenting an original design, he accentuates the mask with brown cotton twine, naming it Kotoku, or "sack" in the Akan language.

Queen mother of the Ashanti Empire, Yaa Asantewaa is an important figure from the late 1800s and early 1900s, honored in this African mask. Ghanaian artisan Winfred Korley creates this mask, carved from sese wood to depict the African monarch. Asantewaa's face is split down the middle, showing black on one side and rustic beige on the other. A red cotton headband ties her hair together.

Salihu Ibrahim crafts a striking mask intended to protect and fight evil where it hangs. He calls the mask Toura, which in the language of Ghana's Hausa people means "Strong." Ibrahim crafts the mask by hand with sese wood featuring a jute hair and beard, as well as a headdress trimmed with raffia. Red cotton threads trim the aluminum mask over the large, expressive eyes.
