Francisco Huaynate Paucar weaves a tapestry that is admirably clear, rich in color, and minutely detailed. "In my tapestry I depict a fair by the riverside featuring people dressed in the traditional costumes of that Andean region," says the master weaver as he presents his work. "The women are selling the huacas (ceramic pots) that they made. This is a scene you regularly see on Sundays throughout Andean villages, where people come to either sell or buy." Huaynate weaves the wool in the traditional style of San Pedro de las Cajas. He obtains the colors from natural dyes.
Titled "Las huaqueras" in Spanish.
