Wood Relief Panel Concentric Lotus Pattern, "Lotus Layer"

The lotus blossom is an important symbol in Hindu art and is often depicted as a throne for seated deities. This hand-carved suar wood relief panel, presented by Bali's Komang Sri, features multiple concentric layers of lotus blossoms, each one different from the next. The piece is pleasing to the eye by virtue of its symmetry, but appreciated all the more when the significance of the lotus is understood and appreciated.
