For the Bobo peoples of Burkina Faso and Mali, masks are an important part of their tradition and daily life. Sinclair Yao Daley creates this colorful wood butterfly mask, hand-carved from sese wood. The butterfly is an auspicious ceremonial mask for having a successful crop — critical to a farming culture in an arid land.

"Bundu woman"
After visiting Sierra Leone and dancing with the Bundu women group, I fell in love. This is a great and authentic carving, one of very few offered from Sierra Leone.

"I Absolutely Love This Piece"
I purchased this mask a couple years ago, and I am just now finally expressing my appreciation. The colors and lines of this piece are outstanding. I love how the cheeks are framed by the multicolored tassels. This mask has become one of my favorite possessions. Thank you for your work and for sharing your wonderful story.
