Lacquered Papier Mache Jewelry Box with Floral Motifs, "Uzbek Bouquet"

This fabulous jewelry box by Hojiakbar Vohidov is inspired by the revered artistry of Uzbekistan's lacquer miniature painting. Crafted from papier mache, the lined box is covered with a coat of lacquer and then decorated with lovely floral and leaf motifs exquisitely painted by hand with acrylics, watercolor and tempera paint in shades of blue, red, green, yellow, gold and burgundy. It is finished with several additional coats of lacquer to make it sturdy and shiny.
