This highly stylized mask represents a personage who wears a turban. Richly adorned with aluminum repoussé, its colors are red and black. "This mask is worn by the selected few in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its purpose is for maintaining order in the community," artisan Robert Nortey explains. "These masks are meant for use on ritual or political occasions to arbitrate conflicts and punish wrongdoers."

“Just beautiful...”

I just received you mask, ?Keeping Order?, and it is beautifully made. I particularly love the contrast of the red and black, and the aluminum inserts are beautiful. It is proudly hanging on my wall already with my other masks from Ghana! At this time I have 5 masks, plus 2 mini masks in my collection. This one will not be my last!
