Wearing a ball cap, hoop earrings, shorts and roller skates, a modern young woman listens to an impromptu concert by street musicians. Music fills the air at Ipanema Beach where a cyclist shows his skill and a hang glider soars overhead. Inspired by Vinícius de Moraes e Toquinho's 1960s song "The Girl from Ipanema," Claudia Thomaz celebrates the woman's free spirit in this iconic Rio de Janeiro neighborhood.
Titled "A nova garota de Ipanema" in Portuguese.

"Romantic Impressionism at its Best"
Beautiful. Thomaz has a wonderful sense of the romantic and the skills needed to bring her ideas to the canvas. The colors and textures match the mood of the couple at the focal point of the scene; a scene whose composition is almost perfect. What can't be seen in the jpg photo on the web site is the paintings plasticity which Thomaz achieved by using thick drops of paint on the leaves in the foreground. I live in a relatively large European city and I first searched the galleries here for an appropriate anniversary gift for my wife, but found nothing on offer in any price range that matches the romantic emotions conveyed by this painting. Thomaz is a talented artist and, for the right occasion, I would not hesitate to buy another one of her works.
