Expressionist Painting of Acis and Galatea (2017), "Acis and Galatea"

Telling of the love between a mortal and a Naiad, or sea-nymph, Acis and Agalatea is a traditional Greek myth that inspired this evocative painting. Brazilian artist Dayse Diaz paints the two lovers as Acis holds Galatea in his arms. Painted in an expressionist style, the couple is depicted in tones of grey and brown, as if carved from marble. A Greek column is visible just beyond the star-crossed lovers.
