Wearing green and yellow headscarves, three women represent local merchants in a tradition that has subsisted in Ghana for centuries. "As suppliers, their success depends on others' recommendations to vendors. Theirs is a risky job since they travel considerable distances by night to reach the different farms. If their trucks breakdown, they are left without business, not to mention somewhere safe to sleep" explains Samuel Ashong as he masters batik techniques to create the merchants' portraits. "These are the real merchants of the world. They are not aided by any stock market in taking decisions." Arrives with a Manila mat board.

"Beautiful Batik"
The art is beautiful and will be a great addition to our home. The packaging did protect the batik, but the matting is creased on one entire short end.

"treasure from Africa"
I made one African wall in my hallway. I have been to Africa many times, but I could not return with anything big...I love this picture of the women at the market in West Africa. It has modern and primitive elements as I see it, and it goes well with my other artifacts.
