Costa Rican Traditional Balsa Wood Mask of Warrior & Bird, "Boruca Bird"
Trogons are colorful and delicate birds found in the tropical forests of Costa Rica. Two of them are the stars of this stunning wood mask that also features a toucan and a warrior in a homage that the artisans of Costa Rica's Association of So Cagru Indigenous Women pay to the traditional masks worn by the Boruca people during the Dance of the Devils, an annual celebration they hold to mark their battles against the Spanish conquerors. This lovely decorative accent to display on the wall is painted and carved by hand from balsa wood.
