These unique bird call whistles are from the Pataxó Indigenous Community in Brazil. The four whistles are crafted from marupa wood and decorated with geometric patterns using wood burning techniques. The whistles mimic the call of birds--partridges, pigeons, small-billed tinamou, and other species. A close connection with nature, including communication with birds, is an important part of Pataxó life.
