Ghanaian artist Nii Teiko Aryeetey creates a painting rich with African symbolism. The colorful painting depicts a woman in silhouette; superimposed over her image are two adinkra symbols. Duafe, represented by a wooden comb, is a symbol of beauty and cleanliness, desirable feminine qualities. It is topped by the Mate masie symbol, which translates to "What I hear, I keep"--a symbol of wisdom, knowledge and prudence. Aryeetey renders the painting in his own unique style, which he calls "linenism".
