This traditional Madhubani painting, signed by Indian artist Sheela Devi, captures a moment from the Bhagavad Gita in which the cow-herding girls known as the Radhika carry water as they await the mesmerizing flute music of Lord Krishna. The Madhubani technique requires the careful placement of paints to an image drawn freehand on handmade paper. The result is a colorful homage to the romance of ancient India.
