Knitting since the age of eight, Maritza Oviedo runs a workshop with family members, making a range of knit creations inspired by Peruvian culture. Here, Maritza Oviedo designs this men's pullover sweater featuring hand-embroidered patterns, a v-neck, long sleeves and a comforting sage-colored cotton blend with viscose.

Artisan Ana Fernandez of Peru designs this men's long-sleeve pullover sweater made from luxuriously soft 100% alpaca wool with a quarter-zip collar. In varying shades of brown, the sweater features stripes in the background and a vertical wave pattern in the foreground.

About her designs, the artisan says, “For me, designing is a fusion of ideas. I blend fashion trends with my own favorite sources of inspiration, which are Victorian textiles and our Peruvian culture. I love designing apparel of alpaca wool and cotton because this really makes a contribution to society. It lets me give jobs to local people, especially women who want to get ahead and move to central Peru seeking a better future.”

A classic cable knit sweater is reimagined by Cesar Cano of Peru. A honeycomb knit on the front and back is spliced between vertical cable patterns. A rolled neckline and rust color give the sweater a youthful update.

Hand-crocheted flowers bloom across a super soft baby alpaca sweater, adding subtle elegance and texture. The sleeves feature a honeycomb pattern in homage to the bees which pollenate the blossoms. The sweater is finished with a relaxed rolled neck and rib-knit sleeves and hem. Briseida Huete works in extra soft baby alpaca, the fine fleece from the season's first shearing.
