Sculpture, "St Judas Thaddeus"

Saint Judas Thaddeus is present in several churches across Minas Gerais. Known as the saint of desperate cases and lost causes, his image inspires great devotion. Artisans of São João del Rey paint this sculpture with admirable detail, replicating the baroque stylizations to be found across this Brazilian region. Thaddeus introduced Christianity to Armenia and is portrayed holding a club and a book, known as the Epistle of Jude.
