His unadorned features and plain headdress belie the prosperity this mask is believed to bring. Nana Adu Amankwapam I presents a mask from the Azande people of the Congo, formerly Zaire. "The trees used for these masks had to be cut from virgin forest," he explains. "People would hang them on the door post to bring abundance to the home."
